Canal Winchester came out on top against Buckeye Valley on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Indians sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Barons. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since April 1st.
Kendal Mccrea made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Mccrea was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, HannaH Pearson was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Gabby Wuelleh, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Pickerington Central lost 14-7 to Marysville on Friday.
Natalya Lim was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-2. Sofie Barnett was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Canal Winchester's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Pickerington Central, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Canal Winchester hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. However, it's not like Pickerington Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .392. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
