Softball Recap: Neptune's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Neptune had lost four straight, but after bumping their record up to 2-6 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Lakewood Piners 17-15. The high-scoring effort was just what Neptune needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Sophia Forgach was incredible, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and seven RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Miah Quarles, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Neptune always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

As for Lakewood, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6. Even though they lost, their still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.2 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

On Lakewood's side, Jaziya Hunter led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with seven stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Hunter has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gisell Nieves Nieves, who went 3-for-4 with six stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Neptune has already played their next game, a 9-8 defeat against Henry Hudson on the 17th. As for Lakewood, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-6 victory against Trenton Central on the 17th.
