Softball Game Preview: Berwick Bulldogs vs. Lake-Lehman Knights

Berwick is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Lake-Lehman is on a ten-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Bulldogs will welcome the Knights at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Berwick put up the most runs they have all season on Wednesday. They never let Columbia Montour Vo-Tech get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Morgan Siegel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, earning two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Makayla Brown was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Welsh, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Berwick always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .786. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Lake-Lehman has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 2.56 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Pittston 11-10.

Berwick has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Lake-Lehman, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
