The biggest upset of the week belonged to Old Saybrook-Westbrook, who took down 99th ranked Coginchaug Regional, 22-14. Jailan Swain ran for 151 yards in the win.
Brandan Basil and Chris Caron provided fans with a highlight when they connected against East Hampton/Vinal RVT. The connection was good for 80 yards, the longest such play in Pequot - Sassacus this season.
North Branford's dynamic duo of Basil and Caron proved tough for the Bellringers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Basil threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns and Caron had 159 yards receiving. Alex McGuigan helped North Branford's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 78 yards.
Nate Cruz was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 205 yards on 25 carries as Haddam-Killingworth defeated East Hampton/Vinal RVT. Teammate Zack Roth added to the ground attack by rushing for 130 yards.
North Branford's Basil and Caron have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Basil has thrown for 1282 yards this season, while Caron, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 25 catches for 624 yards. Cromwell's Derrick Villard leads the league in rushing yards with 979.
The Panthers' Villard needs only 21 yards against Mark Basil's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in Pequot - Sassacus this week will be when Cromwell takes on the Thunderbirds. At the moment, Chris Eckert's team is in third, while North Branford is in first.
There should be lots of points scored when the Panthers and the Thunderbirds face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Cromwell comes in having scored 213 this season, while North Branford has scored 253. The Panthers scored 16 points last week as they beat Morgan.
Hyde Leadership extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Lewis Mills, 48-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
