Section 3 Class B - West recap October 1, 2013
Homer extended the longest winning streak in Section 3 Class B - West this week by beating Westhill, 41-7. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Trojans.
Marcellus made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,245 from 5,624. The improvement was the result of a 19-14 victory over Cortland last week.
Homer's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Drew Cottrell threw for 120 and 2 touchdowns and Jayden Gavidia had 117 yards receiving. On the ground Alec Bush contributed 170 yards.
Bush was a passing and rushing force as Gary Podsiedlik's team beat the Warriors. Bush's key target this week was Gavidia, who caught 3 passes for 117 yards.
Billy Ostrander made the biggest impact on defense this week as Birdlebough fell to Solvay. The 5-foot-8 senior.
Bush was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 170 yards on 20 carries as the Trojans bested Westhill. Teammate Gage Root added to the ground attack by rushing for 20 yards.
The Firebirds' 5-foot-8 quarterback Ostrander is the league leader in passing yards this season with 153. The leading receiver in the league this season is Gavidia. The Homer star has 3 catches for 117 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Homer takes on the Bearcats. At the moment, the Trojans are in first, while Solvay is in fifth.
