Destinee Herrera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, Oxnard got a big performance out of Alexis Haros, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Haros has posted since back in April of 2024. Kayla Lorona was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Oxnard hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Dos Pueblos made easy work of San Marcos on Wednesday and carried off a 12-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Oxnard, Dos Pueblos also got a great game from a two-way player: Juliana Brunner. Throwing, Brunner pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn Ashby pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. At bat, Brunner went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Ashby went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. That home run was Brunner's first of the season.
In other batting news, Kacey Hurley was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Anna Gray, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Dos Pueblos is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Oxnard, they pushed their record up to 14-4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
Oxnard's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's matchup. The Yellowjackets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Dos Pueblos, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Oxnard continue to outrun the ball?
Oxnard came up short against Dos Pueblos in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
