Even though the Northwest Mounties scored an imposing 60 points on Saturday, the Jackson Vikings still came out on top. Jackson snuck past Northwest with a 65-60 win. Given Jackson's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Northwest is ranked 295th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jackson can attribute much of their success to Cyron Stamper, who scored 15 points. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Darrion Weller, who scored ten points.
Jackson's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Northwest, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
Jackson will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Napoleon at 5:00 p.m. on December 28th. As for Northwest, they will head out on the road to face off against Columbia Central at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
