The Scotland Fighting Scots had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on Hoke County with a sharp 75-51 victory. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-18.
Scotland was led to victory by Alicia McClain and Morgan Thompson. McClain dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Thompson scored 24 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyasia McQueen, who scored 13 points along with 5 rebounds.
Hoke County's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Whitney Thompson, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Lailah Crowder, who scored 13 points along with 4 steals.
Scotland's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Hoke County, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Scotland will head out on the road to face off against Douglas Byrd at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Douglas Byrd focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday. As for Hoke County, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Red Springs at 6:00 p.m. Red Springs is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
