On Wednesday, the Roosevelt Roughriders faced the Ballou Knights in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Roosevelt walked away with a 69-58 victory over Ballou. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Roosevelt to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gabriel Hudgens, who scored 15 points along with two steals. Jamall Price, Jr. was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six steals.
Ballou lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Josiah GoMillion, who scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points GoMillion has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Samaud Benton-McDonald, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Ballou struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Roosevelt pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Roosevelt has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Ballou, they now have a losing record at 8-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roosevelt will take on Dunbar at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Dunbar comes in on six and Roosevelt on three. As for Ballou, they will be playing at home against Woodson at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (Woodson is ranked 26th, while Ballou is ranked 14th).
