The Jefferson Area Falcons struggled with assists on Saturday (the Edgewood Warriors had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Jefferson Area took a 48-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Edgewood. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Jefferson Area in their matchups with Edgewood: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Jefferson Area had strong showings from Tatum Bordeaux, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds, and Mia Contenza, who scored five points along with two steals. Contenza is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played.
Edgewood got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Faith Vencill out in front who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Leigha Guyton, who scored two points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Jefferson Area's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-9. As for Edgewood, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with that victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson Area will square off against Kirtland at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Jefferson Area focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday. As for Edgewood, they will head out on the road to take on Madison at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Edgewood is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59.3 points per game this season.
