The Fort Morgan Mustangs will take on the University Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Fort Morgan has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Fort Morgan is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Saturday. They lost 16-4 to Alameda.
Fort Morgan saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jadin Carrera, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask University). They blew past Liberty Common 14-5 on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Aiden Solano looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Kaden Turk was a standout: he scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Brody Duran was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
University was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty Common only posted a batting average of .174.
University's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Morgan, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fort Morgan has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fort Morgan couldn't quite finish off University when the teams last played back in March of 2019 and fell 7-5. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
