The Somerset Academy South Homestead Hurricanes had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 48.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They blew past Westminster Christian 51-28. Considering Somerset Academy South Homestead has won five matchups by more than 22 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Somerset Academy South Homestead's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Liah Da Costa, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Da Costa has scored at least 25% of Somerset Academy South Homestead's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sakura Barnes, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Somerset Academy South Homestead has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 5-2 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.4 points per game. As for Westminster Christian, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Somerset Academy South Homestead will take on Keys Gate at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Keys Gate comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 15 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Westminster Christian will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Miami Christian at 5:00 p.m. on December 12th. Miami Christian comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
