Salinas had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 16-8 to make it four. They fell just short of the Pacific Grove Breakers by a score of 5-4. The Cowboys were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Breakers earlier this season, when they won 4-1.
Bella Machuca was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits.
On the hitting side, Gigi Rossi was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Kianna Campbell was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
As for Pacific Grove, their win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-17. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 30, 2025.
On Pacific Grove's side, Alex Giammanco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jasmine Booker, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyvia Maciel, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Salinas will face off against rival Hollister at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cowboys 3.6, the Haybalers 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Pacific Grove is set to challenge their familiar foe Palma at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
