Madison Christian extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 5-9. They fell 13-8 to the Genoa Christian Academy Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-9 back in April.

Gideon Schafer was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Madison Christian: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 3-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, Patrick Foster was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. DJ Williams was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.
As for Genoa Christian Academy, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games.
Like Madison Christian, Genoa Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Brooks Norman. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Norman was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vinny Messana, who went 3-for-6 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Braxton Couch, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.
Coming up, Madison Christian will welcome Shekinah Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Genoa Christian Academy, they will be taking part in a tournament against Danville at 5:00 p.m. on the 21st.
