5A Region 6 recap October 8, 2013
Center Point extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 6 this week by beating Pinson Valley, 40-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Eagles.
Springville was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. The Tigers vanquished Curry 48-12 earlier in the week.
Walker's dynamic duo of Bryant Atkins and Keony A rom proved to be unstoppable against Hayden, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Atkins threw for 180 yards and A rom had 60 yards receiving. Brady Pugh helped Walker's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 67 yards.
Moody's Michael Barron and Terrell Martin led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Barron has thrown for 905 yards this season, while Martin has 20 catches for 400 yards. Devlin Hodges from Jordan leads the league in rushing with 449 yards.
The top two teams in 5A Region 6 will face off this week when first place Center Point takes on second place Walker. Center Point bested the Indians last week, while the Vikings defeated the Wildcats.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Blue Devils and Springville face off next week.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Walker takes on Bennie Hall's team. John Holladay's team has allowed 66 points this season, while the Eagles have given up 99. The Vikings allowed 0 points last week as they beat Hayden.
The league will see a high scoring game when Keith Maple's team and Moody face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Tigers comes in having scored 167 this season, while Jay Brown's team has scored 157. Springville scored 48 points last week as it topped the Yellowjackets.
Center Point was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Pinson Valley. The Eagles came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 36 last week.
