Midlothian is 9-1 against Monacan since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Trojans will head out to challenge the Chiefs at 5:00 p.m. Midlothian is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
On Thursday, Midlothian made easy work of Clover Hill and carried off a 14-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Marlee Gaskell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Gaskell was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Bella Moussa was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Erika Fiege, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Midlothian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 21 runs the game before, Monacan was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They came up short against Cosby, falling 9-1. The Chiefs have struggled against the Titans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Monacan saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Gee, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Midlothian pushed their record up to 14-0 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Monacan, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
Monacan's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Midlothian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Monacan, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Midlothian keep running through batters, or will the Chiefs buck the trend?
Midlothian took their win against Monacan in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 6-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
