Given Evansville Memorial's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Evansville North is ranked 90th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Evansville Memorial found their leader in underclassman Rylee Canaan, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Canaan has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Myla Browning, who scored 11 points along with six assists.
Evansville North's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maddy Knies, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Libby Blythe, who scored 16 points.
Evansville Memorial has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. As for Evansville North, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-8.
Evansville Memorial will head out on the road to face off against North Harrison at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. North Harrison is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Evansville North, they will be playing at home against Gibson Southern at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Gibson Southern's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 21 games.
