Even though the Wheelersburg Pirates scored an imposing 59 points on Saturday, the Russell Red Devils still came out on top. Russell walked away with a 66-59 win over Wheelersburg. This was payback for Russell, who suffered a 83-64 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Russell got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Caleb Rimmer out in front who scored 20 points along with six rebounds. Elijah Neel was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds.
Russell's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Wheelersburg, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Russell will square off against Raceland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Wheelersburg, they will head out on the road to challenge Zane Trace at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Zane Trace has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
