The Madison Patriots pushed their score all the way to 63 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 67-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Avery County. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Madison in their matchups with Avery County: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the loss, Madison saw an underclassman step up: Gavin Gault scored 29 points along with three steals. That was a full 46% of Madison's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Eighmey, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Madison's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-12. As for Avery County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-13 record this season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Owen the next time they take the court. Avery County will head out to face Owen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Madison will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
