Axtell is 8-2 against Wortham since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Axtell Longhorns will look to defend their home court against the Wortham Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Tuesday, Axtell took a serious blow against Marlin, falling 76-38. While losing is never fun, Axtell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1085th, while Marlin is ranked 447th).
Meanwhile, Wortham's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell 68-59 to Dawson. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Axtell's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-15. As for Wortham, they dropped their record down to 5-16 with that loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything went Axtell's way against Wortham in their previous meeting back in January as Axtell made off with a 48-22 victory. With Axtell ahead 32-12 at the half, the match was all but over already.
