Central State recap Oct. 16, 2012
Reed City extended the longest winning streak in Central State this week by beating Central Montcalm, 42-25. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Chippewa Hills made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,459 from 7,873. The improvement was the result of 36-17 victory over Hesperia last week.
Chase Huntey and Steven Malloy gave Morley Stanwood a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Huntey threw for 151 yards and three touchdowns, while Malloy ran for 116 yards. Teammate Matt Maguire added to the ground attack by rushing for six yards.
Trent Karcher was the best wideout in the league this week as the Warriors topped the Panthers. Karcher tallied two receptions for 55 yards. Shane Travis helped Chippewa Hills' passing attack out by catching three balls for 38 yards.
Keagan James provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Hornets fell to Reed City. He completed seven passes for 67 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 103 yards. James' favorite target this week was Jesse Judge, who caught four passes for 54 yards.
Cody Hollister made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Mohawks defeated Holton. The 5-foot-10 senior grabbed one interception.
Chippewa Hills' Jake Tarbell and Karcher have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Tarbell has thrown for 1057 yards this season, while Karcher has 36 catches for 798 yards. Central Montcalm's James leads the league in rushing yards with 1082.
A big matchup in Central State this week will be when Lakeview takes on Big Rapids. The Wildcats are in fourth place, while the Cardinals are in second place.
Monty Price's team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on Marty James' team.
