Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Mary's Academy). They blew past the Jefferson Saints 58-32 on Thursday. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 21 points or more this season.
Aleena Nauman continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 14 points and seven steals. She is becoming a predictor of St. Mary's Academy's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 8-2 (and 4-7 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Avery Anderson, who posted five points and 14 boards.
St. Mary's Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson only nine assists.
T Nutter and Meadow Mondragon certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Nutter dropped a double-double with 11 points and 18 rebounds, while Mondragon earned 12 points. Nutter has been hot, having posted 14 or more boards the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gigi Trujillo, who had five points.
The victory made it two in a row for St. Mary's Academy and bumps their season record up to 12-9. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26.5 points. As for Jefferson, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats duke it out with the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on February 27th. As for Jefferson, they will face off against Bruce Randolph at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
