A feisty cat fight will be fought as Littlefield Wildcats face off against Slaton Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Monday, Littlefield got the win against Roosevelt by a conclusive 14-6. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Amaya Mccannick was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 5.1 innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Maggie McNeese was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Natalia Sanchez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Littlefield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Slaton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Roosevelt a 12-0 shutout on Saturday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tigers considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Like Littlefield, Slaton also got a great game from a two-way player: Isabella Guzman. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Guzman has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anelise Luera, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. Zuri Martinez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.
Slaton's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Littlefield, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Littlefield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Slaton struggles in that department as they've averaged .410. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
