The Merrill Vandals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. The contest between Merrill and Vestaburg wasn't particularly close, with Merrill falling 44-30. Merrill was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Vestaburg apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Vestaburg got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lily Johnston out in front who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Johnston has scored at least 25% of Vestaburg's points. Addison Neelis was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Merrill's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-4. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.0 points per game. As for Vestaburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.
Merrill will head out on the road to face off against Breckenridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Vestaburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fulton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
