Pope John XXIII's Khaneil Bruce rumbled for the longest rushing play in Catholic Central - Small this season in his game against Manchester Essex/Rockport last week. Bruce ran for 95 yards on the play and finished with 110 on the day as his team lost to the Hornets.
Lowell Catholic extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Minuteman Regional, 28-0. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Crusaders.
Pope John XXIII's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mike Sullivan threw for 182 and two touchdowns and Bruce had 107 yards receiving. Nate Budwah helped Pope John XXIII's passing attack out by catching six balls for 49 yards.
Adam Wentzel provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Lowell Catholic topped the Mustangs. He completed 16 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 88 yards. Wentzel's favorite target this week was Chris Regan, who caught eight passes for 68 yards.
Brian Vaughan's team's Sullivan and Bruce have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Sullivan has thrown for 847 yards this season, while Bruce, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 29 catches for 497 yards. Chris Tamukedde from Rick Sampson's team leads the league in rushing with 427 yards.
A big matchup in Catholic Central - Small this week will be when Pope John Paul II takes on St. Clement. Pope John Paul II is currently in third, while the Anchormen are in first.
The Crusaders made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,956 from 9,735. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 28-0 victory over Minuteman Regional last week.
