The Belfry Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Letcher County Central Cougars / Lady Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Belfry put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Powell County 54-15 at home. Given Belfry's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky football rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Powell County is ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dre' Young was on fire: he rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries. Eli Caudill also helped out with an impressive 88 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, even though Whitley County scored an imposing 31 points on Friday, Letcher County Central still came out on top. Letcher County Central managed a 35-31 win over Whitley County. The win made it back-to-back wins for Letcher County Central.
The victory (which was Belfry's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Powell County and 3-6 Magoffin County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.6% over those games). As for Letcher County Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
