Gregori is 9-1 against Modesto since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Gregori Jaguars will look to defend their home court against the Modesto Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Wednesday, Gregori was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 57-51 to Enochs. Gregori has struggled against Enochs recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Gregori saw an underclassman step up: Jayson Powers dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Powers has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Smith, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Modesto's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 74-54 walloping at the hands of Downey. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Modesto has suffered since December 7, 2023.
Gregori has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Modesto, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.
Gregori strolled past Modesto in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 87-73. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Modesto's Heston Blom, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Gregori to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
