The Pembroke Dragons will head out to take on the Elba Lancers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Pembroke is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Pembroke made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Kendall, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Dragons fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday. The Dragons have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Pembroke saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Santini, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Elba won against Letchworth on Monday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Lancers came out on top in a nail-biter against Alexander, sneaking past 5-3. The Lancers' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Elba let Nicholas Scott and Brayden Jachimowicz run wild. Scott went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Jachimowicz went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Elba's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average this season. As for Pembroke, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pembroke has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Elba struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Pembroke's way against Elba when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Pembroke made off with a 14-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
