Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Jordan Erickson of
Rocky Mountain (Meridian) is the 2020 MaxPreps Idaho High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot, 180-pound senior running back/defensive back was an all-purpose threat for the Class 5A state champions.
The Grizzlies used Erickson as a running back (464 yards, five touchdowns), wide receiver (674 yards, 11 TDs) and kick returner (227 yards, two TDs). Fittingly, Rocky Mountain went to Erickson to chew up the clock with 3:40 remaining in the state championship game and clinging to a 17-14 lead. He delivered and helped snap Rigby's 20-game winning streak.
During Erickson's four years in the program, Rocky Mountain went 39-4 with unbeaten state championship teams in 2018 (12-0) and 2020 (9-0).
According to 247Sports, Erickson has offers from Air Force, Army, Idaho, Montana Tech and Navy.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.
