Miami had a senior duo take command as Cook Jamir dropped a double-double with 27 points and 16 rebounds and Alexie Nicolas went 7-for-13 on her way to 19 points in addition to eight steals and six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jamir has scored all season. Sydney WIlson was another key player, putting up four points along with 12 assists and seven steals.
Miami smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 29 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Cypress Bay was able to grind out a solid victory over Park Vista on Thursday, taking the game 48-38. Given the Lightning's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Cobras are ranked 263rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Miami better keep an eye on Danielle Oz. She was instrumental in Cypress Bay's win, going 8-for-14 en route to 21 points in addition to five boards and five steals. What's more, Oz also posted a 57% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ellie McKinney, who posted eight points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Cypress Bay has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which lines up perfectly with their 18-6 record this season. As for Miami, their win bumped their record up to 17-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Miami has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Cypress Bay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Miami against Cypress Bay in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, as the squad secured a 62-33 victory. Does Miami have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cypress Bay turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
