The Lexington Catholic Knights will venture away from home to take on the Bryan Station Defenders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lexington Catholic is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
While Lexington Catholic's win against Woodford County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Knights skirted past the Yellowjackets 2-0.
The result came thanks to Abby Hammond's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lexington Catholic's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Payton Coomer, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits Coomer has posted since back in March. Lauren Kelley also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Lexington Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Bryan Station faced Montgomery County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Defenders were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Indians. Considering the Defenders have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Karsyn Rockvoan made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Rockvoan was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
In other batting news, Bryan Station let Tiahna Bowman and Adrienn Arcure run wild. Bowman went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Arcure got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Olivia Greenberg was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Bryan Station has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Lexington Catholic, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lexington Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bryan Station struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lexington Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Bryan Station in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
