1A District 1 Top Player Performances of the Week
Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!
Gavin Ford Delivers Best Effort of Season
On Friday, St. John Paul II got the W thanks in part to Gavin Ford playing the best football he has all season. Ford threw for 298 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 14.9 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown. He is becoming a predictor of St. John Paul II's success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is 3-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).
The win (which was St. John Paul II's fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-4. Ford and St. John Paul II will square off against Pensacola Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

North Florida Christian Comes Up Short Despite Huge Game from Underclassman Arius Burt
While North Florida Christian couldn't topple Zarephath Academy on Friday, it's impossible to ignore the impact made by underclassman Arius Burt. Burt was unstoppable, rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown, while also picking up 80 receiving yards and a touchdown. He didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack, made ten total tackles, and defended a pass.
For the year, Burt has caught 4 touchdowns while averaging 34 receiving yards per game.

George Grant Delivers Electric Performance Vs Deerfield-Windsor
George Grant was a major factor in Maclay's victory over Deerfield-Windsor on Friday. Deerfield-Windsor had no answer to Grant as he threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown. Grant also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making six total tackles and defending a pass.
If the past is any indication, Grant could be in store for another big game when he takes on Taylor County on Friday. Back in November of 2023 (the last time Grant saw the Bulldogs), he threw for 322 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes, and also rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

Nash Beshears Turns in Season-Best Effort
Nash Beshears produced his most outstanding game to date while leading Maclay to the win on Friday. Beshears picked up 126 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a rushing score.
If history really does repeat itself, Beshears might just drop another big game when he faces off against Taylor County on Friday. When Beshears last faced the Bulldogs back in November of 2023, he picked up 130 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
