The Piketon Redstreaks will be taking part in a tournament against the Eastern Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Piketon 3.3, Eastern 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Piketon easily dispatched Oak Hill on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Redstreaks fell just short of Adena by a score of 8-6 on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Piketon saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addy Blakeman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs. Aubrey Heath was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Eastern entered their tilt with West Union on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They never let the Dragons get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Allie Grooms, who gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks to keep West Union off the board. Grooms has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Eastern got a big performance out of Maddi Simpson, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Simpson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Shelton, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Eastern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Piketon's defeat dropped their record down to 21-4. As for Eastern, their victory bumped their record up to 15-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Piketon hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Eastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
