The Chico Panthers's and the River Valley Falcons's contest on Thursday was close at halftime, but the Chico Panthers turned on the heat in the second half with 44 points. Chico blew past River Valley 65-44. Chico might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won three contests by 21 points or more this season.
Adam Brott continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The contest was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Magnus Nielsen, who scored 15 points.
River Valley's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tayvione Brown, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Brown scored a full 27.3% of River Valley's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tarun Nijjar, who scored 5 points along with 9 assists.
Even though they lost, River Valley were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chico only pulled down six.
Chico's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for River Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Chico will face off against Marin Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Marin Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 568th, while Chico is ranked 231st). As for River Valley, they will be playing at home against Pleasant Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pleasant Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday.
