The Eastern Eagles will take on the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Eastern is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.5 runs per game this season.
Eastern is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 25 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against West Jefferson on Saturday. They came up short against the Roughriders, falling 9-1. The loss was the Eagles' first of the season.
Eastern got a good showing from Clayton Moore, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Moore has allowed since back in May of 2025.
At the plate, Eastern saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Durst, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Trey Mugrage also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Lynchburg-Clay put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Adena 20-6. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by ten runs or more this season.
Aiden Bene made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Bene was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Lynchburg-Clay got a massive performance out of Quin Wells, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, Wells posted four RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. Luke Davis was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Lynchburg-Clay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Adena only posted an OBP of .222.
Having lost for the first time this season, Eastern fell to 3-1. As for Lynchburg-Clay, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Eastern has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Lynchburg-Clay struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
