The Monterey Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their 15th straight loss. They fell 49-40 to Sequatchie County. Monterey was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Monterey's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Collin Fowler, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Aiden Roberson-Barber, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Leading Sequatchie County to victory were Ryker Terry and Beckham Mckendrick. Terry scored 15 points along with eight rebounds, while Mckendrick scored 20 points along with six rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Mckendrick has scored at least a third of Sequatchie County's points.
Monterey's defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-23. As for Sequatchie County, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monterey will take on the Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. York Institute presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Wildcats in Tennessee (the Dragons are ranked 133rd, while the Wildcats are ranked 413th). As for Sequatchie County, they will stay at home for another game and welcome the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on February 3rd.
