The Rolling Meadows Mustangs will face off against the Payton College Prep Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rolling Meadows has eight straight wins, Payton College Prep has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Rolling Meadows will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Glenbard North, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 13-5 victory on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Ryan Schneider was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Callum Paisley, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Payton College Prep lost 14-4 to Great Crossing on Sunday.
Payton College Prep saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Freddie Matvias, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Rolling Meadows pushed their record up to 8-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Payton College Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
Rolling Meadows' speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Mustangs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Payton College Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Rolling Meadows continue to outrun the ball?
Rolling Meadows skirted past Payton College Prep 3-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
