The Resurrection Christian Cougars will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Colorado Academy Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Resurrection Christian will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Last Thursday, Resurrection Christian didn't have too much trouble with Sterling on the road as they won 53-35. Given Resurrection Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Sterling is ranked 94th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Resurrection Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Marcus Phillips out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Phillips hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Cade Crutcher was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, even though Peak to Peak scored an imposing 57 points on Thursday, Colorado Academy still came out on top. Colorado Academy walked away with a 65-57 win over Peak to Peak. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 15 to 4 on the offensive boards, as Colorado Academy did.
Colorado Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was River Hamm, who scored 17 points. It was the first time this season that Hamm scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Clyde Love, who scored 12 points along with five steals.
Resurrection Christian's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.5 points per game. As for Colorado Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.
Monday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Resurrection Christian have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 54.3% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Colorado Academy struggles in that department as they've made 46.6% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Resurrection Christian strolled past Colorado Academy in their previous meeting back in January of 2020 by a score of 61-44. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Colorado Academy's Elliott Cravitz, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Now that he won't be playing on Monday, will it be that much easier for Resurrection Christian to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
