Lower Richland's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Lakewood's QB won't forget Isreal Brown anytime soon given he sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, South Florence humbled Wilson with a 35-7 victory. With the Bruins ahead 21-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
South Florence's win came from a few key players Lower Richland will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Messiah Jackson, who rushed for 123 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 58 yards and one TD while completing 87.5% of his passes. He got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 64 yards. South Florence didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jewel Washington and Will Wilson Iil. Another thorn in Wilson's side was Terry Gordon, who picked up three sacks and made six total tackles.
Lower Richland's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for South Florence, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Lower Richland has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 149.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like South Florence struggles in that department as they've been averaging 213 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Lower Richland ended up a good deal behind South Florence when the teams last played back in October of 2024, losing 36-19. Thankfully for the Diamond Hornets, Tre Leonard (who rushed for 174 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
