Two dominant guards in Slade Pike and Braydon Jacob are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Golden Demons will head out on the road to take on the Lutheran Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Golden has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 57-56 to Evergreen.
Shad Garnett put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jacob Maestas, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Lutheran came tearing into Thursday's match with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Air Academy as Lutheran made off with a 85-61 win. Lutheran has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 24 points or more this season.
Golden's loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4. As for Lutheran, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2.
Golden took a serious blow against Lutheran when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 70-36. Thankfully for Golden, Brendan Kooienga (who scored 14 points along with five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
