Baseball Recap: Rattan Continues Road Dominance on Wednesday

Rattan is still undefeated this season after their game against Hilldale on Wednesday, but Hilldale came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Rattan Rams came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Hilldale Hornets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rams have posted since April 4, 2024.

James Childers and Shade Cody were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Childers tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Cody struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. At the plate, Childers scored two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Cody went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Cody hit this season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jimmy Ellis, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Rattan hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hilldale struck out ten times.

Rattan's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Hilldale, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-2.

Looking ahead, Rattan is taking a road trip to face off against Hartshorne at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Hilldale, they will host Poteau at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Hilldale's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Poteau's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
