The Padua Franciscan Bruins's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 55-38 fall against St. Joseph Academy. While losing is never fun, Padua Franciscan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 583rd, while St. Joseph Academy is ranked 112th).
Several Bruins players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ella Figliano, who scored 13 points. Figliano set a new season high mark in steals with two. Ally Tonsing was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Padua Franciscan were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Padua Franciscan's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-5. As for St. Joseph Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Padua Franciscan's road trip will continue as they head out to face Keystone at 7:00 p.m. on December 18th. Keystone is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for St. Joseph Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Champion at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Champion focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Monday.
