In other batting news, Cedar Grove-Belgium got a massive performance out of Brayden Oelhafen, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Oelhafen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carter Schmitz, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Cedar Grove-Belgium hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Howards Grove struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Kohler posted their closest win since May 23, 2024 on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Reedsville 4-3. Winning may never get old, but the Blue Bombers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Like Cedar Grove-Belgium, Kohler also got a great game from a two-way player: Jackson Mannon. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mannon has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Mannon wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zane Willadsen, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Willadsen's first of the season.
Kohler now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Cedar Grove-Belgium, their record is now 5-1.
Kohler's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cedar Grove-Belgium hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Kohler, though, as they've only averaged .216. Will they be able to contain Cedar Grove-Belgium's hitters?
Cedar Grove-Belgium came out on top in a nail-biter against Kohler when the teams last played last Thursday, sneaking past 2-0.
