Hershey is 8-2 against Bishop McDevitt since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Trojans will be playing at home against the Crusaders at 4:15 p.m. Hershey is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Bishop McDevitt will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Hershey extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Trojans blew past Carlisle 8-1. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Maddie Bowe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hershey let Sarah Young and Payton Smith run wild. Young went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Smith went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Haffly, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hershey kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Bishop McDevitt fell victim to Red Land and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Patriots, falling 13-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Crusaders in their meetings with the Patriots: they've now lost four in a row.
Bishop McDevitt saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Giunta, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Bishop McDevitt's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Hershey, their win bumped their record up to 12-6.
Everything went Hershey's way against Bishop McDevitt when the teams last played back in April, as Hershey made off with a 17-2 victory. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
