Baseball Game Preview: Arundel Wildcats vs. Chopticon Braves

The Arundel Wildcats will take on the Chopticon Braves on Friday. Arundel will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Arundel will bounce into Friday's game after beating Severna Park, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wildcats beat the Falcons on Wednesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-2.

Rowland Thursby made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Thursby was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Arundel got a great performance from Tahner McGriff as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. McGriff has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Luke Gamble, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Franky Vega also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Chopticon extended their postseason success on Tuesday against Northern. They skirted past the Patriots 7-6. The win continues a trend for the Braves in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won five in a row.

Arundel pushed their record up to 14-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chopticon, their record is now 15-5.
