The Pine Lake Prep Pride will venture away from home to face off against the Corvian Community Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pine Lake Prep has four straight victories, Corvian Community has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
If Pine Lake Prep beats Corvian Community with 17 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Everything went Pine Lake Prep's way against Christ the King last Friday as Pine Lake Prep made off with a 17-2 win. Fans of the Pride have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Emma Rette was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Rette was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Ava Cornacchione was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kristen Armstrong, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Pine Lake Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .444 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Corvian Community fell victim to Lincoln Charter and their airtight pitching crew last Friday. They lost 15-0 to the Eagles. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by exactly 15 runs.
Pine Lake Prep's record now sits at 4-0. As for Corvian Community, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
Corvian Community's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pine Lake Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .413. It's a different story for Corvian Community, though, as they've only averaged .138. Will they be able to contain Pine Lake Prep's hitters?
Pine Lake Prep took their victory against Corvian Community in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pine Lake Prep since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
