Winton Woods (Cincinnati) football coach Troy Everhart resigned from his coaching position at the school last week according to several published reports in the Cincinnati area.
Everhart led Winton Woods to the Division II state title last season.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Everhart could be named an assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati, becoming the second area high school head coach to join the Bearcats’ staff over the past few years.
Kerry Coombs – who helped lead Colerain (Cincinnati) to national prominence earlier last decade – is already on the Bearcats’ staff as a defensive backs coach and has a significant role in recruiting for the Big East team.
Winton Woods athletic director Dwight Campbell told the Enquirer that defensive coordinator Andre Parker will be the Warriors’ head coach this season. Teams are allowed to start practice the first week in August.
"Troy has communicated to us that he would pursue an outside opportunity," Campbell told the Enquirer. "He didn’t specify what that would be. It’s something that came as a surprise to us, but we understand his position and his aspirations. We’re happy for him but not pleased with the timing."
2. Harlan steps down from MND: Mount Notre Dame (Cincinnati) girls basketball coach Dante Harlan resigned Monday morning, according to the Enquirer. He guided MND to three consecutive Division I state titles from 2007 to 2009 and was an assistant coach for the 2004 and 2006 state titles.
MND has not said when it expects to name a new coach. The school declined specific comment on the reason for Harlan’s resignation. MND lost to Walnut Hills in a Division I sectional final earlier this year.
