After flying high against the Monroe Redhawks last Wednesday, the Sun Valley Spartans came back down to earth. Sun Valley took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marvin Ridge. While losing is never fun, Sun Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Marvin Ridge is ranked 23rd).
Sun Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chloe Grant, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Tyra Robinson was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Sun Valley's loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Marvin Ridge, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sun Valley will square off against Porter Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Porter Ridge will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Sun Valley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Marvin Ridge, they will head out on the road to challenge Weddington at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
