Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Claremore Zebras walked away with it. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 48-47 win over Sapulpa. The victory was nothing new for Claremore as they're now sitting on three straight.
Claremore's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gage Deckard, who picked up 141 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Braxton Etheridge was another key contributor, throwing for 294 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per attempt.
When it comes to explaining why Sapulpa lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Marco Smith. Despite the final result, he rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Colton Howard, who threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns.
Claremore's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1-1. As for Sapulpa, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Claremore will square off against Elgin at TBD on Friday. Elgin is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Sapulpa does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
