The Lafayette Generals will head out on the road to face off against the Montgomery County Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lafayette will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Lafayette's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over Paul Laurence Dunbar. The Generals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Lyla Hould tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over six innings pitched. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kierstyn Kelley, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Mckenzie Harney was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.
Lafayette was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Montgomery County has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging 3.8 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They came up short against Bryan Station, falling 11-1. The Indians' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Montgomery County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilliana Hill, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Montgomery County's loss dropped their record down to 16-4. As for Lafayette, their record is now 19-7.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lafayette hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Montgomery County struggles in that department as they've averaged .350. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lafayette couldn't quite get it done against Montgomery County when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 12-8. Can the Generals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
